The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale is a challenging, unique golf course located just 12 miles northeast of Center City. Constructed by legendary architect, Donald Ross, in 1920, Torresdale offers an enjoyable 18 hole layout that will test every aspect of your game – especially your short game. Every hole is precisely placed over Torresdale’s rolling terrain weaving you to and from the elegant clubhouse with each nine.

The challenging par 4 8th is the hardest hole on the course, and perhaps one of the most difficult par 4s in the section. Off the tee, a player is faced with a tree lined left side of the fairway while its right side is defended by an old house preventing an easy bail out. The fairway runs out into two cross bunkers before dropping into a landing area should you not take on the forced carry. Its green, set precariously over the Byberry Creek, is pitched back-to-front in true Torresdale fashion.

Capping off an incredible stretch of holes leading back to the clubhouse is the par 3 9th. The unique green is deceptively long, but set at an angle as to appear narrow. A back left pin can lengthen this hole by nearly 20 yards. Built into a hill, the green is defended by bunkers and awkward lies as well as a severe slope that divides it into two tiers.

Torresdale is packed with great short par 4s and hole 15 may be the best of them all. Playing only 300 yards from the back tees, #15 sits on what may be the flattest part of property. Off the tee, longer players are forced with a decision. A green with bunkers on all sides, an overhanging tree on the right, and out-of-bounds left provide all the risk needed to choose the safe play. With the slopes on this green, an easy 3 or 4 can turn to a 6 or 7.
